Ullapool Youth Hostel sits directly on the Ullapool seafront with rooms offering views over Loch Broom and the Beinn Dearg mountain range. The property is a three-minute walk from both the bus station and the ferry terminal to Stornoway on the Isle of Lewis. Guests can explore the whole North West coast with its iconic mountain scenery, beaches, sea lochs and islands from this base.
Accommodation and rooms
Rooms vary in size and include private rooms, standard twin rooms, standard quadruple rooms, standard family rooms, and bed-in-dormitory options for solo travelers. The hostel provides bedding and towels at no extra cost, a rare offering in budget accommodations. Lockers are available in dormitory rooms for secure storage of valuables.
Amenities and facilities
The hostel contains a well-equipped self-catering kitchen, two small lounges, a dining area with harbour views, and laundry and drying rooms for wet gear. Additional facilities include a shared lounge/TV area, key access, security alarms, smoke alarms, and fire extinguishers. Pets are allowed, and street parking is available near the property.
Dining and kitchen
A very good breakfast is served daily, with options including cereal, toast, fruit and hot or cold drinks for a small charge. The self-catering kitchen is described by guests as 'fully equipped down to the smallest detail' and includes plenty of drying towels and supplies. Guests can also eat takeaways in the communal dining room.
Local activities and transport
Ullapool is a fishing village with restaurants, bars, a leisure centre, swimming pool, museum and the Macphail Theatre for arts events. Outdoor activities such as hillwalking, kayaking, climbing and cycling are available close by. Ferries leave daily for Stornoway, and cruises visit the Summer Isles from April to October.
